Fierce Conversations

So much of being a stage manager is being able to effectively communicate. This is a skill. Often times it is assumed that people know how to communicate effectively. However, in the book Fierce Conversations Susan Scott does not assume, she teaches. How can one have a “fierce conversation” about not only the hard things, but all things. I incorporate Ms. Scott’s book into a practical lesson teaching students how to communicate in difficult situations.

The following are examples of talking points from the Fierce Conversations PowerPoint that introduces students to the concept of having fierce conversations.

Fierce Conversations Assignment

To apply skills learned in the Fierce Conversations unit students select a topic regarding an incident with a run crew member. Then they brainstorm how they would approach having the fierce conversation.
